Job Description/Essential Functions

Responsible for managing cross-functional projects achieving scope requirements to the proposed schedule, while ensuring budgets are achieved.  This role will be involved in the project scope definition and will manage the product launch, installation, and customer close-out of Capital Projects in the Pulp & Paper Industry.  Success measures will include on-time project launch date, project budget performance, meeting or exceeding project requirements, and manufacturing performance to standard, all while advancing KBC’s mission of being a forward-thinking, collaborative, and ethical business.
  • Manages cross-functional projects to a successful outcome.
    • Ensures functionality meets the project requirements.
    • Guarantees project timing is developed and maintained.
    • Monitors project spend to ensure actual is at or below budget.
    • Manages the risk of the project as defined in the project document.
  • Manages project scope change, seeking appropriate approvals and adjusting time, budget, design specifications, and risk accordingly.
  • Primary emphasis for the role will be to manage Capital projects for the Stock Prep and Chemical Pulping industry.
  • Provides direction for all functional resources to ensure successful completion of tasks.
  • Duties also include the below:
    • Supports sales and purchasing teams during vendor selection and final client meetings.
    • Creates, manages, amends, and publishes project schedules.
    • Creates, updates, and manages project budget.
    • Updates project scope/product functional scope documents to align with any changes in approved scope.
    • Communicates regularly on status and expectations.
    • Coordinates with KBC site supervisors & managers.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to directly interface with customer contacts for project status and updates. 
  • Exhibits a positive approach.

  • Provides examples of working well within and leading a team.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and other related software.  Strong preference given to candidates with MS project experience.
  • Ability to read technical drawings with GD&T. 
  • Demonstrates KBC values of personal accountability, discipline, trust, and proactive action.
Education and Experience
This position requires a Bachelor of Science degree in a technical field with 5 years of work experience. Five or more years of cross-functional project management experience is mandatory.  Must have a track record of successfully leading production release of Capital projects.  A suitable candidate will provide examples of their personal actions and results achieved against project schedule, budget, scope change, and risk management.  Ability to manage 3-4 projects simultaneously through various phases of the project is also required.  Candidate should also have experience managing NPD projects through a Stage-Gate process.  Experience with sheet metal fabrication, welding, cast iron part design, and injection molded plastic part design/assembly is preferred.  Preference will also be given to candidates with PMP certification and experience from the Pulp & Paper industry (visiting or working/directing in a mill).
Physical Requirements
Office environment subject to occasional lifting, bending, standing, and/or stooping.  Must be capable of sitting at a desk for prolonged periods and working on a computer.  When traveling, must be able to negotiate typical airport obstacles, and be able to tolerate long flights.  When visiting customers or manufacturing facilities, must be able to move around the facility, and negotiate obstacles (ramps and uneven floor surfaces) with exposure to a typical mill or manufacturing environment, i.e. extreme heat, cold, dust, noise, fumes and other elements.  Must wear required personal protective equipment when visiting customers and other facilities.
Travel Required
Must be able to handle approximately 40% travel, which will be predominately to help close deals with clients, visit suppliers during the fabrication process, and align resources for project installation, start-up, and close-out.
